Corey O’Connor Joins Weaver to Lead Health Care Services

Weaver, the largest independent accounting firm in the Southwest, announces the expansion of itshealth care industrypractice. Corey O’Connor, CPA will lead this practice as Weaver’s health care industry director. Anna Stevens, CPA also joins Weaver as a manager in assurance services focusing primarily on clients in the health care industry. Both work from the firm’s Houston office.

“Corey’s and Anna’s exclusive focus and extensive experience working with health care organizations provides a platform for Weaver to rapidly expand its assurance practice, specializing in audits of health care entities in the greater Houston area and throughout Texas,” said Trey Hunt, CPA and partner-in-charge of Southwest Texas assurance services.

Weaver has expandedits health care practiceto help meet the evolving needs of health care organizations, including medical groups, hospitals, clinics, surgical, imaging and rehabilitation centers, as well as physician and dental practices.

O’Connor brings to Weaver nearly a decade of experience in public accounting and private industry, focusing most of his career on the health care industry. He previously led audit engagements for acute care hospitals, post-acute care facilities, surgery centers and other health care providers. He joins Weaver from Nexus Health Systems, where he served as the chief financial officer/vice president of finance. In this role, he led the finance department including revenue cycle management from billings and collections to health information management. Prior to that, O’Connor was with BKD, LLP.

O’Connor is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Texas Society of Certified Public Accounts (TSCPA) and the Houston chapter, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the Gulf Coast chapter. He earned a Master of Professional Accountancy degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Throughout her career, Stevens has worked with a variety of health care entities, including physician practices, ambulatory clinics, acute care hospitals and post-acute care facilities. She joins Weaver from Nexus Health Systems, where she served as the controller, managing operating budgets and preparing financial statements. Previously, Stevens worked at BKD, LLP, where she managed audits for organizations with up to $100 million in net patient service revenues.

Stevens is a member of the AICPA, TSCPA and HMFA. She earned Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting from Sam Houston State University.
