Matthew C. Rawlinson Joins Litigation Practice Group at Eversheds Sutherland

9/5/17

Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce that Matthew C. Rawlinson has joined the Litigation Practice Group in the Houston office. Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Mr. Rawlinson served as partner at Hicks Thomas, LLP.

Mr. Rawlinson represents a broad array of clients in complex commercial and energy-litigation matters, litigating in various areas, including oil and gas royalty, landowner, operator and pollution disputes, construction issues, insurance and indemnity claims, breach of contract disputes, business torts and other general contractual matters, in many state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels.

With more than 18 years of experience, Mr. Rawlinson is well-versed in handling oil and gas industry commercial disputes. He regularly works with investors, energy providers, project developers, underwriters and commodity trading firms to navigate the emerging issues that arise from oilfield services, interstate gas pipeline projects and energy sector contracts.

"We are thrilled to welcome Matt to Eversheds Sutherland," said Mark D. Wasserman, Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP Managing Partner and Co-CEO of Eversheds Sutherland Ltd. “Matt’s nearly two decades in the Texas legal market and his superior understanding of the oil and gas industry and the legal issues at play will greatly benefit our clients."

Mr. Rawlinson’s extensive experience includes representing an international drilling contractor and an oil pipeline company in connection with large oil spills, an oil and natural gas corporation in control of well claims, and an oil and gas company in construction disputes arising out of the sale of crude heaters for a refinery modernization project.

Admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Texas, his previous experience includes litigating and arbitrating numerous cases, and recovering significant sums for clients in energy-related contract disputes.

“Texas is the epicenter for oil and gas disputes, and as we look toward the future, Matt’s capabilities are a natural fit for the group and Eversheds Sutherland,” said David A. Baay, Houston office Partner in Charge and Co-Chair of the US Energy Litigation team. “Matt enhances our substantial energy litigation practice and will be an invaluable advocate as our clients’ national and global oil and gas matters continue to become more frequent and complex.”

With more than 90 years of litigation experience and more than 100 litigators, Eversheds Sutherland has tried and argued cases in the US Supreme Court, all 13 circuits of the US Court of Appeals, the Court of Federal Claims, the Tax Court and hundreds of federal district and state trial and appellate courts. Eversheds Sutherland’s litigation team represents regional, national and international clients from a broad range of industries, including energy, financial services, securities, insurance, construction, manufacturing, automotive, distribution, education, professional services, data privacy, electronics, technology and defense.
