Store adds new Money Center, interactive electronics experience and more to better serve today’s customers
Spring residents got their first look at the newly remodeled Walmart Supercenter at 21150 Kuykendahl Rd. On Friday, Aug. 4 as the much-anticipated project was introduced at an 8:30 a.m. grand reopening ribbon-cutting ceremony.
As part of the remodel, the store is among the first in the Houston area to debut Walmart’s new Pickup Tower technology. These 16-foot tall structures function like high-tech vending machines and can fulfill a customer’s online order in less than a minute.
To use the Pickup Tower, customers simply choose from millions of items available on Walmart.com and select the Pickup option at checkout. When the item arrives at the local store, an associate loads it into the Pickup Tower and the customer retrieves by scanning a bar code sent to their smartphone. The Pickup Towers are the latest example of how Walmart is using new technology to save its customers time and money, and allowing them to shop however, whenever, wherever they want.
Last October Walmart shared that it is investing around $6 billion this fiscal year in the US in store growth, store remodels and innovations like Pickup Towers and Online Grocery Pickup.
“The Pickup Tower pilot phase has been so successful Walmart is expanding it to additional locations across the country – and we’re proud to be the third in the Houston area,” said Store Manager Atina Smith. “That’s just one of the highlights of our recent remodel.
Customers will also enjoy the following store improvements:
- State-of-the-art electronics department with interactive displays that allow customers to try laptops, tablets, mobile phones and more before purchase
- New MoneyCenter area to provide financial services to customers
- Larger assortment of industrial and power tools in hardware
- Enhanced infant department with strollers at floor level and easier access to everyday essentials like diapers and formula
- Refreshed, new-look pharmacy with private health consultation room
- Improved layout in bakery
- Additional self-checkouts on both sides of the store for customer convenience
- Improved layout in produce and grocery
- Updated bathrooms
- Wider Aisles, new lighting, and paint throughout
“This remodel, along with our everyday low prices, represents our continued investment in the Houston area,” said Smith. “For 20 years, we have been listening to customers and creating the kinds of experiences to show we are a store of the community.”
Customers are invited to the grand reopening celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m Saturday, August 19. There will be customer giveaways, including Marketside cookies and Keurig samples, pizza, fresh fruit and activities for kids.
