5/7/17

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CottonGen LLC, an agricultural technology company that develop improved crops to meet global macro-challenges, announced today that it has changed its company name to Texas Crop Science LLC (TCS). The company also completed its first venture financing round and expanded its Board of Directors.

The name change reflects the company’s proven track record of applying discoveries in multiple scientific disciplines, such as human biology, to improving a broad range of agricultural crops. The company’s lead technology platform, PYRAMAX™, harnesses the principles of holistic plant growth, derived from a systems biology perspective, to achieve high yield in a variety of plants under a range of environmental conditions. While cotton was the initial experimental crop for Texas Crop Science, PYRAMAX has demonstrated promising results in both greenhouse and field tests in other crops, including soybeans and rice.

“Our name change reflects our scientific heritage and commitment to bringing valuable whole-plant growth traits to growers worldwide,” said Simon Hiebert, CEO of Texas Crop Science. “Completion of our first funding round arms us with working capital to accelerate our field trials and expand into additional crops and regions. We anticipate that data from these trials will add to our already impressive PYRAMAX results.”

The venture financing round was formed by Reid Walker at Five T Investments with participation by Korenvaes Horizon Partners including Mark Hart and Brett Rule.

The Texas Crop Science Board of Directors has expanded to now include:

  • Simon Hiebert, CEO Texas Crop Science LLC
  • Fulton Murray, Hunt Ventures LP (Retired)
  • John Myers Jr., Treaty Oak Capital Management
  • Eric Rey, former CEO, Arcadia Biosciences
  • Reid Walker, Five T Investments
  • Howard Wolf, Fulbright & Jaworski (Retired)
  • Scott Zodin, Keel Wealth Management
