McCarthy Volunteers Set the Pace for Healthy Hearts

McCarthy Building Companies employees and their family members joined more than 20,000 participants at the American Heart Association 2016 Heart Walk on Nov. 5.The Heart Walk is a community event that raises funds to save lives from cardiovascular disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the U.S., and promote physical activity and heart-healthy living.

The event was held at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, just blocks away from McCarthy's recently completed MD Anderson Cancer Center Pavilion project. 57 McCarthy volunteers attended for a successful first year of participation in the Houston Heart Walk. Through the Heart Walk and other community events, the Houston team supports the American Heart Association as a part of McCarthy’s Heart Hats program.

The program is dedicated to encouraging, supporting and recognizing McCarthy employees' volunteer efforts in a variety of causes to ensure real needs are being met in communities where employees work, live and play. In addition to this year’s Heart Walk participation, McCarthy’s Houston team has donated a total of $23,410 to the American Heart Association through various fundraising efforts.
