Shepley Bulfinch’s Cope Bailey Joins Board of Directors at The Lighthouse of Houston

Long-term supporter of organization serving the blind and visually impaired brings expertise, commitment to role

Shepley Bulfinch, a national architecture firm known for design excellence and innovation with offices in Boston, Houston and Phoenix, announced today that Principal Cope Bailey has been invited to join the board of directors of The Lighthouse of Houston, a private, nonprofit education and service center dedicated to assisting blind and visually impaired people to live independently. Cope began his term on July 1, 2016.

A principal and design leader in Shepley Bulfinch’s Houston office, Cope brings an inspired and thoughtful approach to the design process and uses the power of detail to articulate larger architectural concepts. His civic, academic, and corporate clients over the past 25 years have included numerous projects for the Lighthouse of Houston, including The Education and Technology Center and the new Health Services Campus.Cope is committed to collaboration, working closely with users to develop a design that is deeply rooted in a specific place and community. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arizona State University and a Master of Architecture from Rice University.

Established in 1939,The Lighthouse of Houston offers a wide variety of educational programs, work opportunities, community services and outpatient rehabilitation for the blind and visually impaired. A member agency of the United Way of Greater Houston, The Lighthouse of Houston serves approximately 9,000 people each year with the primary goal of not only providing direct service to the individual, but a continual commitment to improving the quality and relevance of this service. All other organizational activities and functions are in support of this primary focus and have as their goal the development and dissemination of better service designs and interventions in order to enhance the optimal functioning of the individual.
