KBR (NYSE:KBR) is a global engineering, construction, and services company servicing the energy, hydrocarbon, government services, minerals, civil infrastructure, power, and industrial sectors. The company is scheduled to report its fourth quarter earnings on Thursday, February 23, 2012.
Expectations: The consensus estimate for the company's earnings is 64 cents per share, up 25.5% from a year ago when KBR reported earnings of 51 cents per share. Analysts are projecting earnings of $3.20 per share for the fiscal year. Revenue is expected to surpass the year-earlier total of $2.3 billion by 6.3%, finishing at $2.45 billion for the quarter. Expected revenue for the fiscal year is $9.58 billion.
Performance: Revenue has fallen in the past four quarters. Revenue declined 2.8% to $2.36 billion in third quarter. The figure fell 7.4% in the second quarter from the year earlier, dropped 13% in first quarter from the year-ago quarter and 22.3% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year. The company has been profitable for the last eight quarters; profit has risen year-over-year by an average of 55% over the most recent four quarters. The biggest gain came in the first quarter with a more than twofold surge. Over the past quarter, the stock price has increased from $26.62 on November 22, 2011 to $33.16. December 7, 2011 to December 15, 2011 marked one of KBR's worst periods, as the share price fell $3.25.
Ratings: Most analysts (76.9%) rate the stock a buy. The company's nearest 10 competitors only average 60% buys. In the last three months, the number of buy ratings has increased slightly.
